This is a specialist clinical food that encourages water intake and balances urinary pH to help dissolve and reduce struvite stones and reduce oxalate stones.
Product Details
Struvite stones are a formation of minerals to become hard deposits which collect in the bladder and urethra causing considerable discomfort, pain and difficulty urinating. In some cases they can cause a complete blockage in the urethra which can be life-threatening if not addressed.
VETERINARY HPM® Urology Cat Food U1 is a complete short-term diet (5-12 weeks) that helps to dissolve and reduce the formation of struvite stones and can also be used to reduce the recurrence of a different sort of urinary tract deposit called oxalate stones.
This dietary formula provides all the daily nutrition your cat needs while:
> Dissolving struvite stones in an average of 14 days with a relative supersaturation of <1 to promote rapid struvite stone dissolution. RSS is the measure of how likely a crystal is likely to form and is a unique scale for each type of crystal
> High protein stimulates water intake to encourage increased urination which is important when managing urinary health.
> Acidifying urine with a high protein and sodium content to increase the dissolution of struvite stones.
> Limits urinary tract inflammation with a high level of omega-3 fatty acids (EPA + DHA)
> Binding phosphorus to lower the risk of future struvite and oxalate stones
For long-term dietary control we recommend changing over to VETERINARY HPM® Urology Cat Food U2 after 5-12 weeks on VETERINARY HPM® Urology Cat Food U1.
The VETERINARY HPM® clinical diet range helps to manage several conditions and is more adapted to feline carnivore needs thanks to its low carbohydrate and high protein content (moderate in the case of kidney disease).
Benefits
This clinical diet is indicated for a short term use of 5 to 12 weeks to help dissolve struvite stones and limit the formation of calcium oxalate stones. The high protein and sodium content makes your cat drink more, thereby increasing urine volume and urination It contains high levels of omega 3s which have been shown to help limit inflammation.
High protein and sodium content encourages water intake to increase urination [1].

The formulation induces urine undersaturation for struvite stones with struvite RSS* <1 to promote rapid* dissolution of struvite stones [1] [2].

Fish oil supplements achieve high amounts of omega-3, specifically EPA+DHA, and helps limit lower urinary tract inflammation.
Urinary pH between 6.0-6.5 helps dissolve struvite stones whilst limiting calcium oxalate formation [2].
